I’m Joy and I write poems.

I started writing poetry in elementary school—humorous poems about made up words and other playthings of childlike wonder. I now find myself composing verse that grapples with the intersection of sexuality, religion, and sometimes even death.

My undergrad degree was attained summa cum laude in Biblical Studies from Anderson University and I received my Master of Science in Strategic Communication from Butler University. I love to explore and learn. Writing helps me do this.

I’m a late bloomer in so many aspects of the phrase, having spent my youth battling chronic kidney disease and deep-seated comphet. I honestly am not sure which one was worse.

When I grow up, I want to be free.
